In a trading statement, the Goodfellas pizza to Fox's biscuits group said sales for the 13 weeks to December 31 were up 6.5% on the previous year. However, pre-tax profit was flat. Chief executive Jo Stewart blamed the "disappointing" figures on hefty start-up costs for new ready meals and pizza facilities in Hull and Longford, and the disruption caused by transferring production of desserts and cakes from Rotherham and Swindon to Minsterley and Oldham. The expected surge in Christmas orders came later than anticipated, leaving staff idling early in December and frantic during Christmas week when labour costs soar. {{NEWS }}
