The Burgundy region plans a campaign of enlightenment this year for UK consumers who are confused about its wines and find them inaccessible. Research by the BIVB (Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne) showed there was a wide gap between the Burgundy range available and consumer understanding of it. The region includes Beaujolais, Mâconnais, Chalonnais, Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits and Chablis, but consumers do not make the link between the wines they drink and Burgundy. This year the BIVB will put the focus on its AC wines retailing between £8 and £15. Finance has been put in place for training seminars and tastings in the on and off-trades in the first half of this year. BIVB spokesman Pierre Meurgey said: "People like Meursault, but they don't know it is from Burgundy. The brand has been diluted and the understanding of the region is clouded." {{DRINKS }}
