Foster’s

Sales: £427.0m Growth: -5.7%

Foster’s has been hit by Brits’ migration from standard to premium lager, even if owner Heineken says it won extra volumes in Tesco after Carlsberg’s (7) shock delisting.

It came at a price. The price of Foster’s lager has dipped 2.4%, contributing to a £14.7m (3.6%) slide. “Inevitably, we’re always having discussions with our customers on these matters,” says Heineken MD David Forde. “But what’s good for Tesco is good for Heineken. As a good supplier we’re under more pressure than ever to give them good category advice. If you can’t help them grow the category, you are not going to stay with them going forward.”

The lager’s shelf space might be assured, but the rest of the range looks less secure: Gold is down £10.3m and Radler lost £7.3m, but Rocks added £3.4m.
