Greene King is to distribute US craft beer brand Goose Island in the UK.
A deal secured with Goose Island owner ABInBev will give Greene King exclusive rights to distribute beers including Goose Island IPA, Goose Island Honkers Ale and 312 Urban Wheat to the on and off-trade from October.
“We are delighted to announce this agreement with Greene King and are looking forward to working with them to develop Goose Island in the UK and tap into the strong growth in the craft beer market,” said AB InBev UK on-trade and route to market director Iain Newell.
“The Goose Island brand has excellent potential to perform well in this category due to its great taste, range and heritage,” he added.
The beer will now be available in kegs in the on-trade in the UK, whereas previously it has only been sold in bottles.
Growth in the craft market was making it an exciting time for beer, and many beer drinkers are keen to see more of these products, said Greene King Brewing & Brands MD Chris Houlton.
“We launched our own craft brewery last November and adding an original US craft beer will complement our successful portfolio,” he added. “Goose Island is a leader in the craft of brewing and we are looking forward to offering its range to our customers.”
Goose Island is currently imported by James Clay, who will work with Greene King to continue to supply some specialist on-trade customers.
