Manfood spiced tomato chutney

Condiments brand Manfood has been named winner of Ocado competition Britain’s Next Top Supplier.

The company, founded by former Selfridges buyer Andre Dang, faced off against four other finalists for the chance to win a listing at the online retailer, a £20,000 marketing package, and mentoring from last year’s winner, Hannah Rhodes of Hiver Beers.

Dang and business partner Jon Honeyball were victorious after delivering a Dragon’s Den-style pitch to a panel including Rhodes, Ocado chairman Lord Stuart Rose, and TV chef Tom Kerridge. Manfood impressed the judges with its New York-style branded jars and unusual product range, which includes beer jellies and cocktail jams.

“Andre and Jon had an interesting proposition and, in a crowded market, their range stood out because of their passion, the products’ great taste and eye-catching branding,” said Rose. “It was a really tough decision and the competition was rife this year, with five incredible and unique, undiscovered products but I think Manfood will bring Ocado shoppers something special.”

The other shortlisted products were: Hertfordshire’s The Foraging Fox (beetroot ketchup); Warwickshire’s Meg Rivers Artisan Bakery (shortbread and other cakes); Southampton’s Belinda Clark (marshmallows); and Hull’s Atom Beers, which uses scientific principles to create its flavours.
