Mars Chocolate Drinks & Treats has extended its high-protein portfolio from bottled shakes to snack singles.

With an rsp of £2.19, the new Snickers Protein (51g) and Mars Protein (57g) bars - which are available from Amazon - follow the protein-rich sports drinks based on the same original chocolate brands.

Both bars contain 200 calories, with 18g of protein in the Snickers and 19g in the Mars. Their launch is aimed at the growing protein trend, with bars valued as a category at £22m, rising by 58.4% (£8.2m) [Nielsen 52 w/e 10 October 2015].

“Protein consumption is on the increase and has made the transition from niche to mainstream,” said Michelle Frost, general manager for Mars Chocolate Drinks & Treats.

“We are keen to offer consumers more choices on how to enjoy their favourite chocolate brands. Our bars combine great taste, familiar brands, clearly labelled protein content to meet growing consumer demand,” she added.
