UK importers are to put pressure on Canadian suppliers of wild salmon to stress the provenance of their product, according to trade sources. They are concerned that the integrity of North American product is safeguarded in the face of continued campaigning by ecologists against farming. Pressure has also been increased by recent alarmist publicity from the BBC and in other media about the alleged food safety hazards in farmed salmon and threat to the wellbeing of wild stocks. Importers of North American Wild Pacific Salmon took steps a few years ago to label the product Wild Pacific', but industry observers doubt the extent to which consumers recognise the difference. Princes and John West have endeavoured to educate the public about the canned product and media campaigns are likely to be ongoing. The State of Alaska has been supporting a generic campaign, giving financial support to distributors who featured Alaska' in ads. {{PROVISIONS }}
