Pack on course despite Bristol Bay slowing Speculation that the red salmon run in Bristol Bay would be better than expected has been confounded by the run slowing. Pack forecasts are, nevertheless, expected to be reached with an adequate supply of both 418g and 213g. The UK has adequate stocks from the pre-Christmas trade so negotiations will be protracted as canners seek increases over last year's levels and buyers sit back and hope for a late surge, which could force prices lower. Some packing has taken place in the north of Canada but the main run in the south is another three weeks away. Heavy pre-Christmas promotional activity is planned, using current UK stocks of last season's pack. "We planned a larger than normal carryover to service the November/December promotional slots as it became likely the US packers would be looking for higher prices for this year's production," said one importer. {{CANNED GOODS }}
