Alpro has produced its first-ever carbon-neutral soya milk thanks to its carbon reduction strategy.

The company said its chilled organic milk had achieved carbon-neutral production status by way of reduced CO2 output and carbon offsetting.

Alpro launched its reduction strategy its '2020 vision' in 2007 and aims to be 100% carbon-neutral in production by 2020. Carbon-neutral chilled organic milk represented "a significant achievement," said commercial director John Allaway.

Alpro has steadily reduced its CO2 emissions over the past three years, cutting annual emissions by a respective 24%, 23% and 40% in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

The European Natural Soya Association this week said British consumers were ahead of their European peers in terms of awareness of "eco-friendliness".
