International agriculture business Cargill has acquired chicken processor Freeman's of Newent.
Gloucestershire-based Freeman's, which was family owned, supplies fresh chicken to the UK foodservice, retail and manufacturing sectors.
It was sold last week as a going concern, with the management team led by Clifford and Nigel Freeman set to remain in place during the integration process.
Cargill has been expanding its poultry business in recent years and now has facilities in nine countries, including the Sun Valley chicken business in the UK.
"Freeman's will strengthen our fresh chicken business, complement our existing operations in Hereford and reinforce our commitment to UK agriculture and our UK customers," said Richard Maxfield, Sun Valley Europe's MD.
"During the integration process it is business as usual and emphasis will be put on maintaining the excellent service customers are accustomed to."
