Carrefour is planning to open one of Europe’s biggest hypermarkets in Turkey, where it has a joint venture with domestic industrial conglomerate, Sabanci Holding.

The hypermarket, its 12th in the country, will cover over 100,000 sq ft and will contain 50 checkouts and 2,500 parking spaces. The store will be within a 109-shop shopping mall which also contains an eight-screen cinema.

CarrefourSA, the JV company, also has seven Champion supermarkets and more than 250 Dia discount stores in the country.

It plans to expand further in the country, particularly in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.
