Carr's Milling has reported a 21% jump in interim pre-tax profit on the back of improved sales of both its retail bread flour and bulk flour businesses.

Cumbria-based agriculture, food and engineering group said for the six months to March 1 pre-tax profit rose to £2.36m from £1.96m last year on turnover that increased 5.4% to £68.4m.

Chairman David Newton added that its Makefresh bio-yogurt - made in the home by adding water - had increased recognition through a listing at a national supermarket and a number of health stores.
