Formed as a small family company in 1919, Cidreries du Calvados La Fermière is now a part of Agrial, the largest agricultural co-operative in north-west France.

Its popular cider brand Ecusson has a 25% share of the domestic cider market and the company has protected geographic indication status for its Brittany and Normandy ciders. CCLF hopes to increase its export activity to the UK and Ireland - one plan is to produce cider in cans, something that is not done for the French market.

"We are doing our best to show that we can make quality cider at a price that is reasonable and in packaging that consumers accept," says area export manager Scott Worrall.
