spar go app

A new Spar loyalty app is set to go live next month.

Spar Go, which gives customers immediate rewards on their purchases, will pilot in Spar St Helens West Park Mews on 4 March.

The app, created independently from Spar UK by business technology group BizzleIt, allows customers to view all Spar promotions and notifies shoppers of ad-hoc offers chosen by their local store.

Member-only pricing is available to give registered app users discounts on everyday items like eggs or milk, and retailers can set up immediate discounts - such as a free coffee or newspaper at the weekend - with a purchase.

Registered retailers can take a picture of a chosen product on their phone and select the price on the app. This then automatically creates a coupon code for the till, calculates the discount and sends a message to all app users notifying them of the promotion.

“This will drive people into Spar stores and even make them go out of their way to come in because of an exclusive perk,” said BizzleIt co-founder Michael Lawes.

“If you give the user little extras to make them feel special, it’s extremely powerful for a loyalty scheme and they can end up spending twice as much. The convenience consumer wants an immediate reward and that is more effective than building points.”

The Grocer understands a Spar distributor has already integrated hundreds of stores with the app and one of the biggest Spar operators, Euro Garages, has registered multiple stores.

“There are so many interested parties,” said Lawes.

“We’ve even been contacted by Spar International.”

The app is set up to offer click & collect and home delivery should a retailer choose to set it live. It also features an analytics section where retailers can view the results of their chosen promotions.
