Subway has opened its 1,800th UK outlet at a Euro Garages site in Peterborough this week.

The chain, which is targeting growth through c-stores and forecourts, now has 350 stores in “non-traditional locations”.

The sandwich franchise has opened 77 new stores this year in the UK, and now has 42,000 worldwide across more than 100 countries.

“The opening of the 1,800th Subway store in the UK and Ireland is a huge achievement,” said assistant regional director for Subway Europe Mike Charest. “This fantastic level of growth is continuing this year, reflecting the strong entrepreneurial spirit of Subway franchisees and our corporate partners.”

Forecourt operator Euro Garages now has 47 Subway stores at its sites, and plans to grow this to 100 by 2016, creating around 700 jobs.

“For us, the Subway brand is an important brand partner as we actively secure more locations and invest in our existing 180 forecourt estate across the UK,” said Euro Garages commercial director Ilyas Munshi.
