Sainsbury’s is forecasting its biggest-ever online Christmas.
The supermarket said it would take around 30% more food orders in the week leading up to Christmas than a normal week.
Its online team would also make more than 100,000 deliveries in the three days to 23 December and more than 15,000 staff would pick, pack and deliver customer orders.
“Our online business is firmly established and growing well. We’ve listened to what our customers have told us, and over the past year we’ve updated our website, improved the recipe and ideas section and lowered delivery costs – all this helps our customers save precious time and money as they shop,” said Sainsbury’s online director Robbie Feather.
“Click & collect gives people added choice, enabling them to shop with us wherever and whenever they want. This will be our busiest online Christmas ever, and we’re geared up to give people the quality, service and customer experience they expect from Sainsbury’s.”
Last month, Sainsbury’s revealed its online sales grew 9% in the six months to 27 September. It also revealed online deliveries exceeded 200,000 a week and annualised sales were more than £1bn.
