Dhamecha is to open a new cash and carry depot in Birmingham.

The Smethwick warehouse becomes the Today’s Group wholesaler’s ninth centre in the UK and the second outside oLondon following the opening of a depot in Leicester in 2015.

It will service independent convenience retailers in the West Midlands when it opens at the end of this year, the £680m turnover business said.

“As part of our ongoing expansion programme, the Birmingham branch will provide an additional destination of choice for customers in the West Midlands and we are confident that it will replicate the success of the Leicester branch - as well as those in the London area,” said Dhamecha chief executive Pradip Dhamecha.

The first Dhamecha C&C opened in Wembley in 1976 and it now operates seven branches in and around the M25.

The company is the largest member of buying group Today’s Group.

Today’s Group acting managing director John Schofield said: “We are delighted to hear the news of Dhamecha’s further investment in the Midlands. This is great news for retailers and caterers in the region - and equally great news for suppliers.”
