msc certified fish

JJ Food Service’s entire network of branches have been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.

All 11 of the wholesaler’s depots now sell seafood that carries the blue eco-label, a symbol of the science-based requirement for sustainable fishing.

Caterers can find the MSC-certified product range available at their local branch by searching ‘MSC’ on JJ’s website, the company said.

“People care about where their food has come from, so we are making it easy for food outlets to choose products that have been caught by fishermen using environmentally friendly methods,” said JJ Food Service group general manager Terry Larkin.

The news comes one month after JJ revealed it had dramatically reduced CO2 emissions through the use of telematics - a global positioning system with on-board diagnostics - which slashed idling (the time a vehicle is motionless but with its engine running) by 70%.

The result had also led to a 2% reduction in total carbon emissions from its vehicles, it said.
