Imports drop 17% The latest available import figures show that Cheddar imports into the UK remained at low levels during April although the drop of 3% to 7,300 tonnes was lower than in earlier months. This made the four-month total of imports 22,300 tonnes, a major drop of 17% on year-earlier levels. The most important decline was with imports from Ireland which were down over four months by nearly 4,000 tonnes or 24%. Total UK cheese production during April reflected the bountiful milk supply and rose by nearly 15% to over 36,000 tonnes.
