The price of cheese, milk and bread rose 17.6% on an annual basis last month - the largest rise since 1997.

However, the price of fruit and vegetable fell last month, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Fruit prices fell compared with a rise a year ago, with the largest individual contribution coming from strawberries, while vegetable prices rose by less than a year ago, ONS said.

Overall inflation rose from 2.2% to 2.5% last month due to an increase in gas and electricity tariffs.
