The regional winners of this year’s Dairy Crest Retail Cheese Awards have been announced.
Awards in the category for multiples and co-ops went to Sainsbury in Burnley, Waitrose in Lincoln and Morrisons in Woking. Specialist independent regional winners were Low Sizergh Barn Farmshop in Kendal, the Deli on the Square in Ludlow and Larners of Holt.
These regional winners will be invited to a special lunch at the Café Royal in London on September 6 to receive their prizes and learn who among them has been named the country’s best cheese retailers in the two categories.
The quality of entrants was exceptionally high, so the judges also gave highly commended awards to independent specialists Country Cheeses in Tavistock, Siop Newydd in Criccieth and Valvona & Crolla in Edinburgh. Awards for supermarkets went to Morrisons in Derby; Oxford, Swindon & Gloucester Co-op in Brackley; Somerfield in Yarm; Morrisons in Harrogate and the OS&G Co-op in Dursley.
