Chile's eco-friendly winery Cono Sur has become the first wine producer in South America and just the third in the world to meet a prestigious international standard for carbon reduction.

Cono Sur last week received ISO 14 064, widely seen as the best measure of accountability and efficiency in cutting CO2.

One of its green policies is to keep geese in its vineyards to eat bugs rather than using pesticides.

Carbon-neutrality, bulk shipping and lightweight glass were "increasingly important", said Tesco product development manager James Griswood.

"Not just in wine but across all of Tesco, customers are expecting us to help our supply base bring these initiatives to market," he said.
