Chilled curry sauce brand Masala Masala is expanding into ambient with a new range.

Five ambient sauces will roll out to 3663 depots next month, with a wider range planned to go into retail in March.

The company had been asked to develop an ambient range, but had wanted to ensure there was sufficient demand, said founder Priya Lakhani. “We wanted to create a product that was as good as the chilled range - and wasn’t pasteurised to death or full of preservatives or artificial flavours,” she added.

Pricing issues have prompted the company to halt production of its chilled sauces and switch suppliers. It plans to relaunch the chilled lines in the spring.
