News that the Chinese apple crop is expected to be 6% higher than last year, reaching a massive 22 milion tonnes, continues to underline the fears of the international apple industry that China will eventually become a major player. There have already been limited exports to the UK and importers speak highly of modern packhouse development. It has been estimated that 40% of the crop is Fuji with a further 12% down to a variety called New Red Star.
