Clink! Wines is launching an anti-legislation campaign under its Le Beast brand, which will tell consumers about stealth taxes and involve a demonstration outside Parliament.

The A Pound A Bottle campaign kicks off next week with a petition on a dedicated Le Beast website, demanding the Government lower duty on a bottle of wine from £1.57 to £1. Online activity will focus on "the damage being done to the industry and its producers".

Catherine Monahan, managing director of Clink! Wines, expected to gain publicity by holding protests outside Piccadilly and Westminster in the week commencing 23 March

"The goal is to bring about change by lobbying against unfair policies and educating consumers via satire and parody," she said. "With 1.7 billion bottles of wine sold each year in the UK, a pound a bottle would seem plenty to satisfy the Chancellor."
