The Co-operative Group was named meat and fish retailer of the year at the annual SuperMeat & Fish awards last week.

Judges praised the supermarket’s business initiatives and said it punched above its weight with the quality and range of its offer. Its Lisburn store also won best meat counter. Asda took the head office innovation award for its Link schemes, which encourage supply chain continuity and sustainability. It also picked up the innovation award for its pork, blueberry & dark chocolate sausage and personality of the year for senior red meat buyer Jim Viggars.

Sainsbury's bacon lattice chicken joint won overall best product, Tesco’s Leyland store won best fish counter and M&S won the prizes for best lamb, best ready-to-eat and best fish. SuperMeat and Fish is organised by The Grocer’s sister title Meat Trades Journal.
