Consumer response to Safeway's new colour coding for bagged salads which denotes different tastes has been proclaimed a success, following research during the summer.
There are three codes and what they represent is explained on point of sale material.
Orange signifies sweet tasting salads and includes combinations of Iceberg, Cos, Carrots and red peppers; green is a mild mix and identifies Lollo Rosso, red and white cabbage, batavia and Apollo lettuce; and purple is for salads with a more distinct flavour headed by watercress, wild rocket, coriander and mizuna.
