Kenyan tea prices have fallen sharply over the past year thanks to favourable weather.
However, this past month the trend has reversed. Supply in Kenya – the biggest tea exporter to the UK – has fallen because of the current cold season and the fact farmers have recently pruned their tea bushes. As a result, prices have risen 6.5% month on month.
At the other end of our tracker, coconut oil prices have slumped 12.4% over the past month as supply fears have eased and cocoa powder prices have continued their rapid decline. Higher demand for cocoa butter has led to an oversupply of cocoa powder.
Maize prices have also tumbled. They are down 7.2% month on month as expectation builds of a record US crop.
