Bake-off has certainly proved to be a winner for this year's Scottish Retailer of the Year, Gordon and Elaine Strang. Since opening their 3,000 sq ft Londis store almost two years ago, turnover in the bake-off section has shot up to £1,800 a week and the store is achieving a steady 40% margin on bake-off every week. Set on the outskirts of Glasgow, the outlet trades seven days a week and its busiest periods for bake-off are 8am-2pm and 5pm-10pm. Playing a major role in this success, says Gordon Strang, is the Bake 'n' Bite bake-off operation set up by Country Choice, and in particular the support his business continues to receive for its bakery section manned by three full-time and three part-time staff. Bakery, savoury and confectionery products are available, but the Londis store's bestsellers are baguettes, sausage rolls and doughnuts. {{FOCUS SPECIALS }}
