Cash and carry firms have criticised supermarket managers in previous years for selling promotional stock in wholesale quantities. But when The Grocer rang Asda store managers on the day news of their Christmas activity broke we could not find one who was prepared to sell product to a fictitious retailer called "Mick Jones". One store manager told us: "We are not allowed to sell to other retailers. It may have happened in the past but it's now more than my job's worth. I cannot stop someone coming in and taking it off the shelves  but if they start buying huge quantities we will limit what they take." Another told us: "By all means come in and buy what you want. But we cannot do pallet loads out of the back." {{NEWS }}
