99p Stores is about to beat Poundland to the punch in the Republic of Ireland.

Just weeks after Poundland announced it would open its first Dealz store in October, 99p Stores has revealed it will open its first store in the republic next month sporting the fascia of uro 50 Stores.

The store, which will sell everything for 1.50 or less, will open in Dublin on 7 September. The move will make it the republic’s only single-price retailer and it could remain so as Poundland has not confirmed it will operate as a single-price retailer there.

“This is yet further proof EU consumer spending patterns have changed forever,” said 99p Stores commercial director Hussein Lalani. “The days of consumers being ripped off paying two and three euros for day-to-day essentials are a thing of the past.”

Last month, 99p Stores pledged to open one new store a week until the end of the year.
