Spar is to shed more light on the issues that surround the sale of age-restricted products with a support pack for members.
The To Sell or Not to Sell packs explain the regulatory differences between England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales and provide booklets, pocket cards and wall charts for use in-store.
There are also yearly assessment forms to check staff awareness plus sale refusal records and incident manuals.
The need for staff diligence has never been greater given the current frenzy surrounding test-purchasing and the recent changes to the licensing laws.
Spar retail controller Barry Wallis said: “The pack is the most comprehensive that is available to independents and will continue to be updated as and when the regulations may change, keeping retailers and their employees up to speed with the very latest information about age-restricted sales.”
The Midcounties Co-operative has launched a campaign focusing on allergy-free shopping in alliance with the Oxford NHS Primary Care Trust. Brand manager Steve Moralee (pictured) said: “As well as guides to allergy-free foods we are supplying lists of all our own brand lines that people with allergies and intolerances need to be aware of.”
