Mace wholesaler Aberness has linked up with a local police force to introduce a proof-of-age regime in 35 company-owned stores.
Younger customers buying alcoholic drinks are now asked to provide documentary proof they are over the age of 18.
If they cannot, store staff will serve them only if they think they are over 21 years old.
The Community Spirit campaign is a voluntary scheme set up by Grampian police.
Aberness operations director Graeme Hay said: "We have a responsibility to the community and need to be vigilant."
