Kingsmill owner Associated British Foods has been forced into an embarrassing climbdown over the sale of a bikini for seven-year-olds at its Primark clothing business.

The swimwear, which featured a padded bra, was the subject of a fearsome media backlash amid suggestions that it sexualised children.

The Sun yesterday carried a front-page headline that read ‘Paedo bikini’, while politicians including David Cameron and Gordon Brown also waded into the row. Cameron branded the sale of the line “disgraceful” in a radio interview.

Primark has since withdrawn the swimwear from sale, saying it had "taken note of the concern regarding the sale of certain bikini tops".
