The Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco is not just a food shop; it's a magnet for food lovers across the US. Spanning 65,000 sq ft, the marketplace is home to 27 specialist food and drink stores as well as nine cafés and restaurants serving US and international cuisine.

Shops range from Far West Fungi, which stocks an array of fresh and dried mushrooms, to international cheese store Cowgirl Creamery's Artisan Cheese Shop. Meat and fish lovers are also well catered for with specialist stores San Francisco Fish Company, Golden Gate Meat Company, Hog Island Oyster Company and Prather Ranch Meat Company all represented.

Yet it is the weekly food events and shows that set Ferry Building Marketplace apart. These events have included port tasting and a talk on chocolate from one of America's premier chocolate makers. Later this month it is hosting its first Fungus Festival, where visitors can taste mushroom varieties and meet the growers.

Every Saturday it also hosts a farmers' market, which offers a Veggie Valet for customers who wish to have their purchases looked after while they continue shopping.
