Anglia Regional Co-operative Society has sold a raft of stores to Bournemouth-based retailer Beales in a deal worth £7.5m.

Nineteen outlets will change hands as part of the deal, with around 830 staff also making the switch.

“This transaction is in line with our strategy to grow the group, secures the future of the acquired stores and marks a step change in the development of Beales,” said chief executive Tony Brown.

The deal is the latest in a string of store sales by regional co-operatives, with East of England having offloaded a dozen sites to Vergo Retail in 2009.
