Appleby Westward Group is naming and shaming its worst-performing suppliers, and warning them to shape up or ship out.

The Spar wholesaler has named what it has dubbed "The Dirty Dozen" on a television screen in the reception of its Saltash headquarters.

"My challenge to suppliers is to get yourselves off our Dirty Dozen list as soon as possible," managing director John Pattison told its annual trade show.

"If you are on it now and still there in 2010, you may not be a supplier to us for very much longer, as we simply will not give our customers second best. We expect and demand better service."

Pattison, who took over as managing director at the start of this year, added that the company had expanded its Saltash distribution centre, introducing 1,000 ambient and 400 fresh lines in the past two months.
