Tesco and Sainsbury’s are battling it out for supermarket supremacy in the Daily Mail, ahead of first-quarter figures due out next week that will apparently show Justin King’s boys closing in on their Cheshunt arch  rival.

The paper also has news of impressive sales growth for frozen retailer Iceland. Also doing well, the Mail says, are sales of West Cornwall pasties.

But British lamb could take a hit after Delia Smith suggested on her website that meat from New Zealand might be better.

The Times reports on the latest phase in Tesco’s cunning plan to conquer China, while the Daily Telegraph looks west, where a new film has revealed some unsavoury truths about the US food industry.

And the Financial Times notes the return of George Davies, the former Marks & Spencer and Asda clothing designer, who will be unveiling a solo range later this year.
