Police this week arrested a man in connection with the syringe found in a carton of Sainsbury’s orange juice in Bedford, which sparked a 180,000-product recall (The Grocer, April 9, p8).
The discovery left supplier Sunjuice with a £1m bill after it invested £750,000 in new technology and measures to ensure such an incident could not happen again.
Tests revealed that there were no traces of drugs or poison in the affected carton.
A police statement this week said a 25-year-old man had been questioned, but investigations were ongoing as The Grocer went to press.
