Asda is likely to overtake Marks & Spencer as Britain’s largest clothing retailer by the end of the year, according to newspaper reports.

Market share figures for the clothing and footwear market show that over the past three months Asda’s market share has risen sharply to 8.9%, just under Marks & Spencer’s 9.1%.

Asda has gained recognition in the clothing market with its George brand, which includes £4 jeans and £3 blouses. Last year Asda sold 2m pairs of its £4 jeans.
