Staff at Asda's 20 distribution centres across the UK have voted for strike action in a long-running dispute over working conditions and union recognition.

The GMB union said that its members had voted three to one, or 74.1%, in favour of strike action. The GMB is expected to set dates for industrial action later today.

Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary, said: “GMB members in the 20 Asda distribution depots have spoken. They have voted by three to one to take strike action, despite all the company's attempts to dissuade or intimidate them to vote no.”
