Asda will create 100 jobs when it opens a new regional distribution centre in Warrington next month.

The depot, on the site of a former TNT regional development centre, will operate as a cross-docking centre. It will play a key role in servicing Asda’s additional stores in the North West, following its acquisition of Netto’s UK operations last May. The stores are due to be converted to the Asda fascia by the end of the year.

Asda is asking staff at its two existing regional distribution centres at Skelmersdale and Wigan to volunteer to work at the new depot. These departures will create openings at the existing sites, in addition to the other positions at Warrington.

Asda was forced to sell 47 of the 194 stores it bought from Netto to rivals in order to win regulatory clearance for the deal.
