Two food export specialists, Nisa International and Tudor Rose International, have received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of their international trade achievements.
Nisa International is the export arm of Nisa-Today’s and supplies British products to a total of 85 countries, mainly satisfying demand from the ex-pat and tourist markets.
Turnover in the last financial year was £11.4m, up 30% on the previous year, with Spain and North America showing the largest increases.
MD Sean Ramsden said: “We have seen fierce competition, unfavourable exchange rates and recession in many of our key markets all conspiring against us, yet the hard work and determination shown by our employees has resulted in us experiencing considerable growth in sales and profitability across most of our markets.”
Tudor Rose exports British grocery, soft drinks and household brands to some 64 markets worldwide and currently has a turnover that is exceeding £1m a month.
Other food and drink firms honoured for export achievements were The Macallan Distillers, Mackay’s, Muntons Malted Ingredients and Weetabix.
Each winner is entitled to use the Queen’s Awards Emblem in its marketing and promotional activities for five years.
