Budgens has recruited Sainsbury bakery buyer Nick Hill as senior bakery buyer, replacing Lee Dowers who has left the retailer.
Hill began his career at Boots in 1988, gaining experience in IT, supply and logistics, personal care and healthcare before focusing on sandwich and lunchtime food buying.
He moved to Safeway in 1996, where he held buying roles in produce and frozen food before joining Sainsbury in 2002.
He reports to Steve Carter, senior trading controller for fresh food, who said: “We are rolling out new ranges from Cuisine de France, which are pushing up bakery sales by around 22%. There’s plenty of potential in bakery and Nick’s experience in the category and in logistics will be invaluable in driving further growth.”
