Bakkavör has opened a new factory and farm in China to support its growing Asian business.
The supplier of fresh prepared foods said the new farm in Jiangsu province would provide a substantial proportion of the fresh produce for its business in China and Hong Kong and also improve the group’s control over the quality of its raw materials.
The new factory, located in Fujian province, will increase the capacity of the Asian business.
“The development of fresh prepared foods in China represents a fantastic opportunity for Bakkavör and we see a real, and growing, demand for our expertise,” said Bakkavör CEO Agust Gudmundsson.
In February, Bakkavör reported an 8% increase in like-for-like international sales to £181.6m that it said was primarily down to the success of its North American and Asian businesses.
