B&M Retail, which trades as B&M Bargains, is planning to snap up "a handful" of new stores following the collapse of DIY chain Focus.

Bosses at B&M will tour the country to identify preferred sites but price would be the key factor, director Simon Arora said.

"Geography will be less important than cost," he said. "We will speak to landlords when properties become available, in the second half of the year."

B&M is now moving into out-of-town locations, having bought homewares chain Opus in 2010, taking it into Scotland and Northern Ireland.
