Sir; re Kevin Parker's letter, Give Jobseekers Chances They Deserve' (The Grocer, June 21, p31). Last November Asda went on record stating it had a policy of recruiting over-50s. I applied and I'm still waiting for a reply.
As an ex-Heinz and Reckitts man, I have received some of the best training in the business. I have handled some of the top retail and wholesale accounts in the UK, and trained other NAMs too. Today I work for £200 a week plus 10% commission selling advertising space.
Like Parker, I keep applying for proper jobs but it is very difficult to keep up the enthusiasm especially when you know your CV will be filtered by a young person who has never heard of the Rochdale Pioneers or Green Shield Stamps.
