It's not only brewers that are benefiting from a sales surge caused by the England football team's World Cup success. Tesco says sausage sales have rocketed too.
The supermarket giant claims sales of its World Cup Bender, an 8ins chipolata that mimics the curve of David Beckham's free kick, leapt 800% within hours of Beckham's winning goal against Argentina. Tesco also claims Manchester University researchers analysed Beckham's free kicks and came up with a computer generated virtual free kick in order to get the curve right. The research provided diagrams of Beckham's kick which were used in the packaging.
Tesco head of meat production Matt Simister said: "Instead of watching action replays on TV, the World Cup Bender lets fans see the goal that got England to the World Cup just by looking at their breakfast plate."
