Booker has posted strong sales for the independent trade over the Christmas period.

Like-for-like sales in the 16 weeks to 31 December rose 5.4%, the cash & carry giant said, with total sales up 7.2%.

Catering and retail markets experienced a challenging quarter because of the poor weather, chief executive Charles Wilson claimed.

“Booker serves over 400,000 independent retail and catering businesses,” Wilson said. “They have had a difficult quarter in part due to the poor weather. We are grateful they gave Booker more of their spend during this time and we look forward to serving them in the months ahead.”
