Botterills has vowed to remain an independent retailer, despite the tough economic climate. In accounts filed at Companies House this week, the Scottish Spar chain said its sales had increased 12.5% to £74.4m for the year to 31 May because of its £3.22m purchase of fellow Spar retailer D&M Edgar’s seven stores in September last year. “Although trading will remain competitive, the directors are committed to expanding the business and remaining independent for the foreseeable future,” said Botterills.
